All gain. No pain.

Whether you’re mixing live sound, smoothing vocals or balancing solo instruments, Outlaw is the gain-riding plugin you’ve been looking for. Outlaw listens to the incoming audio and compensates for volume changes, mimicking the mixing desk fader movement of a real-life audio engineer. Forget about drawing complex volume automation and let Outlaw do the hard work for you, with smooth gain levelling and a wealth of features.MIX, TARGET, GATE & GAIN

These 4 main dials give you flexible control over the fundamental parameters of Outlaw, meaning that it’s easy to make broad-strokes adjustments to the performance of the plugin. Adjust the intensity of the effect with the MIX dial and set the RMS target level with the TARGET dial. Use the GATE control to set a relative level so that the gain-rider ignores softer sounds. The master output is controlled by the GAIN dial, very useful for setting accurate levels for precise A/B signal comparison.

Fine tune the gain algorithm with advanced settings, accessible from a secondary panel. Outlaw can perform in band-pass mode with high-pass and low-pass filters and 4 different slope settings. For example, this means you can perform effective gain-riding on audio with low rumble, high-hat bleed or other problematic frequency information.

The Attack and Release options let you mould the transients and sustains of the processed audio to create a smoother signal. The Direction parameter can be set to control the attack and release direction, operating upwards, downwards or in both directions.

Maximum values can be set to adjust the intensity of the gain-riding. A variety of RMS options determine how quickly Outlaw reacts to the incoming signal – another way to help smooth or sharpen the response.

See exactly what Outlaw is doing to the signal at a glance, with the large visual feedback display. This displays Peak and RMS volume for both left and right channel, and the amount of gain-riding in the centre.

Developed in the JUCE framework, this is our most stable plugin to date running happily in all plugin formats for Mac and PC with support for retina and high definition screens. For the first time, AAX / ProTools format is included so all producers using any system can enjoy this versatile plugin.

Outlaw is the kind of toolbox plugin that you’ll reach for every time you need to create balanced dynamics with a “human touch”. Make it the first plugin on your channel for live guitars, vocals, bass and drums, or anything that needs the smooth touch of a sympathetic virtual engineer.

As a person with multiple wa production plugins I’m going with outlaw favorite/must have

Bart Jan Oberendorf
It does what it says it will do, and that’s about it. I don’t use the effect often, and so rarely use this plugin.

it’s a good plugin. I have the lite one’s too, theres is less options, but all version also good.

awesome vocal rider, one of the bests in the market

Tiny but powerful workhorse. Do it job as describe without manually adjusting complex chains of things. Perfect what comes price tag / quality. Easy to use and you can hear it instantly.

Giles Wood
It really gets to the hart of making the parts louder and tighter and low on CPU

This plugin does help you control the dynamics of your vocals and won’t overwork your glue compressor at the end of your chain.

Bought this to use as a simple gain plugin but find I use it lots when recording live via my midi controller as I’m not a pianist and don’t always hit the keys with the required velocity. This sorts this out by raising volume levels as required.

Unless I’m mistaken, I haven’t found a sidechaining allowing to trigger Outlaw by another track ? am I wrong ? However good software !

Whatever DAW you use, Outlaw is definitely the first third party plugin to need to download. Outlaw is the first tool I use when recording vocals, but can be used to “normalize” any track without compression or anything unnatural. And it does it much better than my finger on a slider !

Upgraded from the lite version. Was not disappointed

Product works well, as advertised, but it doesn’t appear to hold the settings when closing out a session. I choose, “Vocal – tight,” but, when coming back to it, it always says it has reverted to, “Default.” Otherwise, a good purchase for the purpose. I’ll recommend it.

Good Pluigin. Really helps to balance the vocals

Frank Kissing
I like the plugin and I use it every time I produce music!!!!!

Glenn Boonen
Good plugin, easy to use. Offers separate controls to either increase or reduce volume. Which is useful if you don’t want quiet signals to become louder but need to restrict maximum volume. One missing feature is to switch the RMS detector to LUFS mode. A signal could change allot in loudness and the plugin won’t see it because the RMS value didn’t change much.

dope. found out about this on youtube and I’m excited to finally use it

I just bought outlaw for an audiobook that I was editing and mixing. The entire book is 16 hours long and there were plenty of clips that were recorded after the fact and inserted along the way. Those clips were drastically different in volume. With this plug-in, I was able to dial in an RMS value that was compliant with Amazon and let it roll. I’ve never been so pleased with the plug-in immediately after buying it. I’m sure this is going to make its way onto a lot of projects. Jackie Baker. Anthem House Recording

Simple but effective… love the no-nonsense plugins that do a job and get your there quickly

Scott Bolland
Without (as yet) getting to grips with it, seems to tame variations quite smoothly.

Daniel Alvarado
This plugin has helped me tighten up bass lines and helped my song sound loud.

Franco Sonaglia
I started using it in 3-4 instances of my latest project …well, what I can say is that… I seem it is something effective processor but it is not intuitive to “understand” … In some moments you think to it like a compressore (is it a compressor with different names for controls?) . In other moments you realize that acts in a slightly different way …even an interesting way… but it is not clear sometimes on which control you should move to tweak the situation or to improve it … it is like a new type of compressor you have to learn the secrets. Sometimes it is not also easy to decide when to use it and when to use a regular compressor . I don’t know …mixed feelings. NOTE: the text box where I am typing now (for this feedback) is a real crap. If you (accidentally) press any combination containing the “Return” key, Like SHIFT+RETURN that is the Windows-standard way to get a new line, you get the “form submit” of the page!

Great Plugin. Definitely recommend you give it a try

Janne Junnilainen
Outlaw plugins are good with compressor and easy to use.

Christopher Scott
A super efficient plugin that does super well for a very affordable price

Ishai Hachlili
Simple and easy to use and the visual feedback is great, showing you exactly how much gain is added.

clem robasse
Can be cool on some tracks but find the right adjustment is not easy

Jerzy Garcia
since this plugin dropped out i love it so much! 😀

Scott Yahney
great & mega easy to use !! sounds really good too !!!

Gabriel Zen
Really useful plugin, works flawlessly on vocals. thanks!

sehr praktisch, leicht zu bedienen, erleichtert die Arbeit und liefert gute Ergebnisse

  • MIX: mixes is the gain riding.
  • TARGET: sets the rms target of the gain-rider.
  • GATE: allows user to set a gate level that is relative to the TARGET level, to have the gain-rider ignore softer sounds.
  • HPF/LPF/SLOPE: Let you filter away the highs and lows in the detection signal with variable slopes so you can for example ignore the low rumble in a speech or vocal recording, or ignore the high attack and finger noises of a bass recording.
  • ATTACK/RELEASE/DIRECTION: Let you apply additional attack and release to the gain-riding so you can let through the signals peaks or smooth out the signals tails. With the DIRECTION control you can set the direction of the ATTACK and RELEASE which is helpful depending on if the general gain produced is upwards, downwards or goes in two directions.
  • MAX UP/MAX DOWN/INSTANT/ZERO/RMS: The MAX UP and MAX DOWN let you set the maximum gain that is applied up and down, which gives you more control over how extreme the gain-riding is allowed to be. Low values sound subtile. High values sound erratic. The RMS control lets you pick between slow, medium or fast rms-detection, which determines how quickly the plugin reacts to the incoming signal. INSTANT option is very fast and ZERO has 0ms RMS time.
