Because we wanted to capture most of the instrument’s authentic feel, we had to virtually sample all the techniques and articulations used by the guitar players. In addition, we also captured other elements such as fret buzzing, release notes, pick attacks, squeaks and some noises produced when an electric guitar is being played. Thanks to our detailed, and smart scripts, you’ll find all the available options arranged in a very intuitive, and elegant user interface. One of our innovative features is the FX-morph system, which combines the tones of regular articulations with harmonic sustained notes and feedback notes, specially recorded for this particular application. This new level of expression, unseen in other virtual instruments of the kind,  allows the player to virtually  replicate  the tone  changes produced by the guitarists when they change the pick angle and position, or the feedback effects achieved when the player gets close to the amplifier. One of the features that most influences the tone of an electric guitar, is the type of pickups they have installed, and the layout of the electrical circuit attached to them. In the process of capturing the sounds produced by such a complex instrument as an electric guitar, one of our must desired features was the possibility of choosing any of the available pickup combinations each particular guitar offers. Wiring the pickups directly to a mixing console, does not produce the same sound as passing the signal through the entire electrical circuit. So, in order to capture the authentic sound of the pickups, we decided to relay on a combination of sampling, and modeling. Analyzing the sonic characteristics of the different  pickups  and   associated

circuits, allowed us to obtain a spectrum snapshot of each pickup or pickup combination. By means of state of the art filtering methods, we can bring to you, all the tonal changes and possible pickup combinations. We even captured the guitar’s wood resonance, since we believe it also contributes to the authentic tone of the instrument. The development process and tweaking, required more than three years of hard work, and we believe that all our passion and attention to detail, resulted in a very expressive instrument, of great playability and realism.

The bundle includes Direct SG, Direct STRATO, BrightBACKER, Direct WIDERANGE, Direct TELE, Direct 335, Direct P90, Direct LP, DirectBACKER 360, Direct MASTER, DirELECTRO 56, Jazz L4 and Surfer JAGUAR. Each model is a recreation of a well-known guitar with unique features that make it stand out.
For example, Direct SG includes two humbucking pickups while Direct STRATO is a double-cutaway electric guitar designed in 1954. BrightBACKER has a solid mahogany body with a carved top cap made of maple that provides a warm tone with ample sustain. Direct WIDERANGE features a maple neck, contoured body and big headstock. Direct TELE is the world’s first commercially successful solid body electric guitar developed in California in 1950.
Direct 335 is a semi-hollow body guitar with a solid maple center block for increased sustain. Direct P90 is a solid mahogany body electric guitar produced from 1952 to 1956. Direct LP is a solid mahogany body electric guitar usually with a carved top cap of maple that provides a warm tone and ample sustain. DirectBACKER 360 is a semi-hollowed body electric guitar which tends to be seen in the British pop scene.
Direct MASTER is an offset-waist body guitar similar in appearance to the Jaguar. DirELECTRO 56 is a single cutaway electric guitar with three silver appearance pickups. Jazz L4 is a hollow body guitar with solid carved spruce top and carved mahogany back and gold hardware. Surfer JAGUAR features an offset-waist body and medium-scale neck.

This model includes two high gain single-coil pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume, 2 tone controls and a mix control.  Our Virtual Instrument provides 3 pickup positions. BrightBACKER is our recreation of a solid mahogany bodied electric guitar, with a carved top cap made of maple that provides a warm tone with ample sustain. This model includes two bright humbucking pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume, 2 tone controls. These humbucker pickups produce a tone that preserves the high frequencies while retaining the thickness of conventional humbucking pickup. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Its sound is suitable for many genres, including rock, country, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, blues, jazz, reggae, punk, and heavy metal.

DirELECTRO 56 is our recreation of a single cutaway electric guitar with three silver appearance pickups. This model includes three lipstick pickups controlled by a selector switch provides seven pickup combinations. A “blow” switch lets you “override” any pickup selection to wire all three pickups in series. Our Virtual Instrument provides 5 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. These pickups produce a bright sound frequently described as “jangly”. They have been used in many genres, including Surf, rockabilly, rock, blues, rhythm and blues.

DirectBACKER 360 is our recreation of  a semi-hollowed body electric guitar which tends to be seen in the British pop scene. This model includes two high gain single-coil pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume, 2 tone controls and a mix control.  Our Virtual Instrument provides 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. These pickups produce Suitable for many genres, pop, rock, blues, rhythm and blues.

Direct P90 is our recreation of a solid mahogany body electric guitar that were produced from 1952 to 1956. This model includes two P90 pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions.
P-90’s have some of the single coil twang, but having large amounts of mid-range tone, favorite of plenty of rock’n’roll, blues and garage rock players.

Direct LP is our recreation of a solid mahogany body electric guitar, usually with a carved top cap of maple that provides a warm tone and ample sustain. This model includes two humbucking pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. Humbucker pickups produce a higher output signal, and also give the tone a mellow quality with less treble frequencies. They have been used in many genres, including rock, country, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, blues, jazz, reggae, punk, and heavy metal.

Direct STRATO is our recreation of one of the most often emulated electric guitar shapes, which is a double-cutaway electric guitar designed in 1954.  This model includes three single coil pickups controlled by a 5-way selector switch, 1 volume and 2 tone controls. Positions 1, 3, and 5 connect the bridge, middle, and neck pickups respectively.  Positions 2 and 4 create the quaky tone by combining the middle with the bridge and neck pickups.  The volume control is shared by all pickups. The neck and middle pickups have a tone control but the bridge pickup has no tone control.  Our Virtual Instrument provides all 5 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. It is a versatile guitar, suitable for most styles of music, including country, rock, blues, pop, folk, soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, funk, punk, and heavy metal.

Direct TELE is our recreation of the world’s first commercially successful solid body electric guitar and it was developed in California in 1950. This model includes two single coil pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 1 volume and 1 tone controls. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. It can produce a bright, country twang tone when the bridge pickup is used, or a mellow, warm, bluesy jazz tone when the neck pickup is used. Its wide range of tonalities allows this guitar to be used for many styles of music including country, pop, rock, blues , funk and jazz.

Direct WIDERANGE is our recreation of another well known guitar, which features a maple neck, a contoured body and a big headstock. This model includes two Wide Range humbuckers controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. Compared to regular humbucking pickups, the wide range pickups give a brighter and clearer tone more similar to a single coil pickup. Its sound is suitable for many styles, such as country, blues,rock, pop, folk, rhythm and blues, jazz…

Jazz L4 is our recreation of a hollow body guitar with solid carved spruce top and a carved mahogany back and gold hardware. This model includes two ’57 humbucking pickups controlled by a 3-way selector switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. Our Virtual Instrument provides all 3 pickup positions. Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. Humbucker pickups produce a higher output signal, and also give the tone a mellow quality with less treble frequencies. This guitar is specially suitable for jazz music.

Surfer JAGUAR is our recreation of a well known guitar, which features an offset-waist body, and a medium-scale 24″ neck. This model includes two single-coil pickups with side plates that improved RF shielding. A slide switch selects between two different pickup circuits, Lead and Rhythm. The lead circuit consists of three switches and two pots. The first two switches were for the neck and bridge pickups, respectively, while the third switch engaged a high-pass filter. Our Virtual Instrument focuses on the Lead circuit and provides all 3 pickup positions. High-pass filter switch, Volume and Tone controls for all the pickup positions. Popular among the surf music scene in the 60s 70s. Later on, vintage Jaguars became popular among punk rock players, and during the alternative rock and indie rock movements of the 1980s and 90s.  Its sound is suitable for many genres, including rock, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, blues, and jazz.

I got the simpler “SG direct” and I absolutely LOVE the playability. I happen to have Line 6’s Helix Native (I also use it in the hardware version when playing live) and this covers all the sounds I need. To me, to get a very good guitar sound, take an instrument with top-notch playability (HW or virtual) and with the right processing (pedal / amp / cab simulations) you can get a VERY nice sound.
